5 LABOR DAY ROAD TRIPS YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS

With summer winding down, vacations at the beach give way to school and cooler weather. As the last holiday before the holidays, Labor Day is one last chance to escape for a long weekend and steal a little slice of summer. Here’s a look at five Labor Day road trips you may not have thought of.

Wine Country

Summer comes a little later in Northern California. While the temperatures on the rest of the West Coast may be easing off a bit, the cooler ocean up north finally warms up and gives the Napa Valley perfect weather for a top-down trip in a convertible to visit some vineyards — just don’t forget a sunshade for when you park. It doesn’t get much more Californian than that!

Leaf Peeping

Fall comes a bit later for most of New England, but for Stowe, Vermont, Labor Day means the kickoff of foliage season. The start of September in northern Vermont is when leaves start to change color for some of the most spectacular and colorful scenery in the country, making it perfect for a heat-on, windows-down ride with some cool crisp air and the smell of fall.

Attention Race Fans and Spring Breakers

From the kickoff of spring break in March to vacation season in the racing capital of the U.S. in July, Daytona sees millions of visitors a year. In September, however, vacations have ended, racing has moved on to other parts of the country and the beaches and strip are perfect for a peaceful getaway and one last taste of summer before cold weather arrives.

The Air Up There

If you find yourself in the Northwest for Labor Day, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming makes a great four-day weekend road trip. Along with enjoying some of the country’s most incredible scenery, hiking, fishing and wildlife, you can also hitch a ride in a hot air balloon for a bird’s-eye view of Jenny Lake and enjoy the cooler weather of the park.

All That Jazz

If music and Southern charm is more your speed, then Charleston, South Carolina’s Lowcounty Jazz Festival may be up your alley. The festival takes place Labor Day weekend in Charleston and features musicians from across the country. After the show, you can head to the beach to fly a kite or catch a sunset cruise around the harbor.

Labor Day weekend is your chance for one last road trip before cold weather kicks in. No matter what part of the country you live in, there are lots of great places you can visit for a few days.
